The ubiquitous quintessential mask of the new century 

But there is another type of mask that is not physically worn:

The Internet is a virtual world.  You enter this world via an internet account which provides you with a screen name.  This screen name becomes your "Mask".  Masks are interesting things.  While we wear them to conceal our identity, it is often our true selves that become exposed while doing so. The human psyche/ego becomes liberated as long as outward identity is concealed.
